The teacher reads the story of Briar and the Rainbow Unillama and follows the teaching guide for students to obtain meaning. Briar and the Rainbow Unillama represents a child friendly way to introduce sensitive topics related to social boundaries.

Sensitive topics are covered in this book such as: 1. Personal Space 2. Inappropriate Touch 3. Learning how to read other’s reactions 4. Friendship and kindness 5. Consent/non-consent.

All sections of this resource have a central theme of consent and exemplify inclusivity. Please use professional ethics when dealing with these sensitive topics with small children.

Strategies for using this Resource:

1) INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY: This resource can be use on an interactive whiteboard. Technologically savvy teachers can show student responses i.e., reasons why Briar should not touch the fleece.2)
